Division of Advanced Diagnostic Medical Imaging

Message

Our division was established in 2019 as a joint research chair between Kobe University and GE Healthcare Japan, Inc.

The goals of our division are to conduct advanced research on new diagnostic methods and imaging techniques, and to develop human resources for the creation of innovations.

Because diagnostic radiology equipment is still advancing at a rapid pace, the training of radiologists and technologists is a necessary issue for the future development of medicine. In our division, we accept Ph.D. students of radiology technologists as well as physicians, and provide guidance for their degrees. We are also actively collaborating not only with the Department of Radiology, but also with doctors from other departments. In the future, we plan to further develop our research in cooperation with hospitals in Hyogo Prefecture and cooperating universities and national centers in Japan.

We would be grateful for your understanding of our activity policy and your cooperation.

If you are interested in our research, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Activities

Development of new technologies in CT, MRI, and nuclear medicine

Research on the application of artificial intelligence in medicine

Our department is currently working diligently on the development and research of artificial intelligence (AI)
Here, we introduce some of our research achievements.

AI for differentiating benign and malignant parotid tumors from MRI images

AI to automatically recognize the position of catheters during IVR

Initiatives

We have been lecturing about AI to medical students and trainees in our hospital.

Details of FY2020 initiatives

In 2020, we provided hands-on training on AI development using radiological images to medical students who wished to participate in medical research.

Contents of training
  • Basics of prostate cancer (epidemiology, etc.)
  • MRI of prostate cancer (PI-RADS version2.1, etc.)
  • Basics of AI
  • Creation of AI
  • Research ethics
  • Statistics (ROC analysis, etc.)
