We are pleased to announce that Retreat “Wakate Dojo”, which is dedicated to young researchers, will be held from Jan 29 (Thu) to 30 (Fri), 2026 at the Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center (Awaji City, Hyogo, On-site only), as a special event of the Center for Medical Transformation (CMX) of the Graduate School of Medicine.
Under our new director, Prof. Takayuki Aoi, the retreat will introduce a refreshed format and bold new activities. This year’s program is co-organized with the University of Washington (UW) to foster rigorous and barrier-free discussion.
Theme: From receiving knowledge to creating it:
Two days devoted to propelling the next step in your research.
Who should attend
Early-career researchers (Associate Professor, Lecture, Assistant Professor, postdoc)
Graduate students
This retreat is especially designed for those aiming for major grants such as AMED-PRIME, JST Souhatsu or HFSP. It’s nice chance to observe the process of making grant application
Program Highlights
All-hands group discussions focused on strategies for securing large-scale research funding
Special lecture by Prof. Noboru Mizushima and Prof. John D. Scott
Industry dialogues with invited researchers from the private sector (e.g., BD, ZEISS)
We’ve designed the retreat as a valuable workshop—where participants pool knowledge and experience, deepen learning, and leave with concrete momentum for both research and career development. It’s also a forum to build horizontal networks among peers and bridge vertical boundaries between career stages
We look forward to welcoming many early-career researchers to Awaji.
