Homepage of the WHHL rabbit and WHHLMI rabbit

(Since opening the home page of WHHLMI rabbits at January 20, 2001)

The WHHL rabbit strain was developed by Dr. Yoshio Watanabe from a mutant rabbit at Kobe University School of Medicine in 1979 and the WHHLMI rabbit strain was developed from the WHHL rabbits in 1999 by Dr. Masashi Shiomi, Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine.

We have been breeding WHHLMI rabbits with the support of many researchers and pharmaceutical companies, but in June 2018 the WHHLMI rabbit colony at Kobe University was closed. We sincerely express our heartfelt gratitude to the support of many years.

More than 100 WHHL rabbits and WHHLMI rabbits are provided annually by Kobe Universitry to research organizations around the world (4,639 cumulative total), and the number of papers written in English is 708 as of July 2019.

In closing the WHHLMI rabbit colony at Kobe University, we summarized the research papers using WHHL rabbits or WHHLMI rabbits so that it will be helpful when planning the research plan, interpretation of experimental data, and preparing the paper.
