CMX Retreat "Wakate Dojo" 2026
Build Bridges. Discover New Possiblitites. The future of research begins with new connections.
The CMX Retreat “Wakate Dojo” is an annual residential retreat hosted by the Center for Medical Transformation (CMX), Kobe University.
Each year, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career faculty members gather at Awaji Yumebutai to exchange ideas, explore new perspectives, and connect across disciplines through special lectures, group discussions, and team presentations.
This Year’s Theme: Translational Research
How can we bridge basic science and clinical practice?
How can new technologies be transformed into real-world applications?
How can different fields come together to create something entirely new?
Together with participants from diverse areas including drug discovery, biotechnology, regenerative medicine, and medical device development, we will explore the many pathways that connect scientific discovery to clinical and societal impact.
Have you ever thought:
“I wish I knew someone on campus who could help me tackle this problem.”
Or perhaps:
“What if the techniques I use in my research could contribute to a completely different field?”
At Wakate Dojo, researchers from different backgrounds bring together their questions, ideas, and expertise to build new connections, spark collaboration, and discover possibilities that might never emerge within a single discipline.
For graduate students, the retreat also offers a unique opportunity to experience how interdisciplinary research begins: through conversation, curiosity, and collaboration.
