Our research interests are understanding the molecular mechanisms of neurological and neuromuscular diseases. We focus on 1) exploring genetic factors associated with Parkinson’s disease and understanding their pathophysiological roles, 2) identification of responsible genes for neurological and neuromuscular diseases such as muscular dystrophy, 3) understanding molecular pathogenesis and establishing therapeutic strategies of muscular dystrophies using model animals, 4) exploring molecular basis of higher brain function such as memory and general intellectual ability.
We started our laboratory as a combined style of clinical/basic researches. Physicians can study their clinical interests in basic research laboratory with basic scientists (from bedside to bench) and their achievements would contribute to clinical medicine such as development of treatment and diagnosis (from bench to bedside). We hope our research will reveal pathological mechanisms and contribute to overcome neurological diseases.
