|
Diabetes mellitus, a disease which is rapidly increasing in the world, is considered one of the main threats to human health in the 21st Century. There is an urgent need for development of innovative prevention and treatment of diabetes. In this program, we will establish a world-leading center of Diabetes (Center of Excellence for Signal Transduction Disease: Diabetes Mellitus as Model) in Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine. We will also establish cutting-edge research and comprehensive educational programs including training for physician-scientists, collaborating with scientists involved in the Kobe Medical Industry Development Plan. More specifically, with diabetes mellitus as a model disease, the objectives of the program are the following: (1) to characterize the pathogenesis of a disease by studying the underlying signal transduction pathways; (2) to establish a system for the development of new treatments based on the basic research findings; (3) to build a new network of electronic medical chart on diabetes mellitus for gBedside to Communityh; and (4) to organize a first-rate education core with the purpose of training physician-scientists in basic and clinical research to an international level. And at the final stage, we will find a center for the signal transduction diseases based on diabetes mellitus. Even after completion of this program, we continuously try to return our results to the global society.
